The International Forum on Clean Energy Technologies will be held for the XII time, on October 2nd -3rd, in the Parliament of AP Vojvodina building under the title „Clean Energy – for a Smart Future“ organized by the Institute for European Affairs (INEA) from Düsseldorf and the Faculty of Technical Sciences Novi Sad.

During the two days of the Forum, the emphasis will be placed on specific tangible energy processes, their improvement and common goals in this area by 2020.

Dear ladies and gentlemen and dear friends,

We are in the twelfth year of work of the International Forum for Clean Energy Technologies (Forum) that will be held on 2nd and 3rd October this year under the name “CLEAN ENERGY FOR SMART FUTURE”. After the awarding of the first “TOP ENERGY” acknowledgements for the most successful projects implemented in the energy sector in Southeast Europe in 2016 and 2017, in this year, we are also obliged to enable achievement of the higher quality of the event and the wider scope of its program concept.

For a long period of time, the Republic of Serbia has been making special efforts in the process of improving its own energy security and in the construction of infrastructure that should satisfy the growing energy demand. Almost identical processes are taking place in other countries in the region of the Southeast Europe confirming once again the fact that no one in this area can allow its passivity or to become an isolated energy island. The reliance on regional projects and the synergy of long-term common interests in achieving energy security as the basis for sustainable development will suppress newly revived political instability in relations between countries and put in the forefront the accomplishment of the most important principle of sustainable development – energy for everybody!

The work of the Energy Community, whose members are the Republic of Serbia and the countries of the Western Balkans, includes operational activities in the field of electricity, gas, renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, oil, environmental protection, competition and statistics. The request of the Energy Community towards the member states for the consistent and full implementation of the provisions of the agreed regulatory framework implies faster establishment of unique, stable and uniform area in terms of energy infrastructure, regulations and markets. Transition processes related to the harmonization of legal differences with the standards of the European Union (EU) are in the final stage of change whereas all member states are confronted with the new set of challenges arising from the need to modernize the existing energy production and distribution capacities and to introduce technological innovations in the use of clean energy technologies.

In the twelfth year of its existence and operation under the auspices of the Assembly of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and co-organizers, the Provincial Secretariat for Energy, Building Construction and Transportation and the Chamber of Economy of Vojvodina,  the Program Committee of the Twelfth Forum has decided that this year’s focus of the Republic of Serbia and of the countries in  the region is going to be directed towards the identification of concrete processes for the improvement of their energy sectors in the most practical way and towards the way of achieving preset common European goals. So far, we have been upgrading energy development plans on the horizon until 2020, which is practically ahead of us, and now, we are going to try to put our own potentials in the context of forecasting strategic objectives until 2050. The EU Energy Roadmap 2050 offers a very innovative approach in the projection of a final goal and a view on the present from the future in order to consider current needs for the change of the economic and social system that will take us to desired goals. Such an approach requires very dynamic and flexible energy policies for all those who want to belong to the corpus of successful nations of the future but also especially well-controlled mechanisms for monitoring the implementation of these policies.

Our common vision is that this year’s two-day work of the Forum should encourage more creative and more concrete use of available potentials in clean energy in these areas through the credibility of presented concepts of the future, technological solutions and scientific papers and further initiate cooperation and development of the energy sector in the countries of the region and directing our future towards the high goals of the EU Energy Roadmap of 2050.

In addition to the plenary session at which top officials of the host country and distinguished guests from abroad will address the audience, the first day of the Forum will be devoted to the consideration and actualization of required activities in the process of the implementation of the adopted energy  strategy entitled “CLEAN ENERGY FOR SMART FUTURE” as well as to results achieved in relation to the preset objectives of the energy policy and sustainable development of the Republic of Serbia and the announcement of large national projects that will qualify us for better and smarter future.

Smart cities make the integral part of the third industrial revolution in which we live. However, the transformation of cities is very slow because the process of change is very complex and the biggest obstacle is people who are by the nature of things unprepared for the change. Positive changes in some big cities give the right to the belief that such positive changes are possible and economically justified and that it is probable to observe cities and buildings not as energy consumers but as energy producers. The example of the project MINSK WORLD implemented by the Company DANA HOLDINGS will present the European mega project that contains in itself all the elements of the latest technological achievements and that fulfills all the criteria required by smart cities. The fact that the Company BK TESLA is a co-author and that many of our companies participate as partners in this project gives us the right to believe in the reality of the fast and successful implementation of the project TESLA CITY, which will also be discussed in more details at the Forum.

On that day, the “TOP ENERGY 2018” acknowledgements will be ceremonially awarded for the most successfully implemented projects in the energy sector in the previous year. At the same time, the experiences of the countries in the region and the EU will be discussed through the participation of relevant representatives of participating countries and the European regions and through the presentations of papers by invited authors on topics “NEW ENERGY TECHNOLOGIES” and “MANAGEMENT OF MARKET RESOURCES AND ENERGY REGULATORY ISSUES”. After presentations during all working sessions, panel discussions will be opened, which in the final common conclusions will provide clear messages on the possible more dynamic sustainable development of the energy sector in Serbia and in the region until 2050.

The second day of the Forum under the co-auspices of the Chamber of Economy of Vojvodina will be focused, in particular, on the review of implemented business projects in the country and abroad through thematic sessions “PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED IN THE FIELD OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY, RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES AND ENERGY MANAGEMENT” and “DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIP – PRESENTATION OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR COOPERATION”. On the second day of the Forum, the project MINSK WORLD will be presented in details.

We take this opportunity to invite you to participate at this year’s Twelfth Forum “CLEAN ENERGY FOR SMART FUTURE” and to give your contribution in creating the vision of the energy future, as well as, in implementing business projects and strengthening mutual relations and energy security of the Republic of Serbia and of the countries in the Southeast Europe.

Respectfully Yours,

Tihomir Simić, PhD                                                                                                                         Ivo Vajgl
